Joan Olivares hat mir vier Sonnenuhrenbilder zugeschickt, die ich gern um ein fünftes ergänzen möchte, weil es sich so schön aus dem Anfangsbild ergibt, das Joan Olivares - links im blauen Pullover - und Joan Serra in Otos auf der Terrasse des Hauses "Ca les Senyoretes" zeigt. Auf der linken Wand ist eine Spiegelsonnenuhr von Joan Olivares zu sehen, die im nachfolgenden Bild zusammen mit der schönen Landschaft von Otos im Hintergrund vorgestellt wird. Beide Fotos hat mir dankenswerterweise Martha A. Villegas zur Verfügung gestellt. Von ihr ist auch das Foto von der Sonnenuhrenanzeigentafel auf dem Marktplatz in Otos. Sie hat die Bilder 2007 aufgenommen.

Dear Reinhold, the sundial is oriented to the west. In the morning working with the reflection mirror placed in the gnomon in the afternoon working with the shadow of the gnomon. The sundial indicates normal time (green), seasonal changes (blue), Babylonian hours (brown), italics hours (complementary) (brown),canonical hours (red) and Islamic prayer hours(yellow).

Joan Olivares hat mir also vier der zuletzt fertiggestellten Sonnenuhren für ta-dip zur Verfügung gestellt, wobei er anmerkt, daß die Sonnenuhr von La pedra de Basset von ihm allein geschaffen worden sei und die drei anderen zusammen mit Rafael Amorós.

Sonnenuhren mit anderen zusammen zu schaffen ist meist eine kluge Entscheidung, bei der die Chance groß ist, daß am Ende etwas ganz Besonderes dabei herauskommen kann. Das beste Beispiel hierfür bietet Otos mit seinen zauberhaften Sonnenuhren. Ich werde auf dieses großartige Projekt nachfolgend noch näher eingehen.
Rafael Amorós ist ein hervorragender bildender Künstler, der seit längerem mit Joan Olivares zusammenarbeitet. Versäumen Sie es bitte nicht, sich über das hochinteressante und umfangreiche Oevre auf seiner Webseite zu informieren und alle Links durchzuprobieren!

Sogenannte Sonnenuhrenpfade aber auch Sonnenuhrendörfer gibt es an verschiedenen Orten in Europa. Nicht selten kommen sie kaum über ein "hübsch" hinaus, in Deutschland aber auch oft nur an ein "gut gemeint" heran, wobei man die großen Mühen Einzelner zwar durchaus zu würdigen geneigt ist, aber Mühe allein reicht eben nicht!
Ganz anders in Otos! Der ländliche Raum machte eine große Strukturkrise durch. Man benötigte nur noch billige Zeitarbeitskräfte, die meist auch vom Ausland her angeheuert wurden. Für junge Leute der Region gab es kaum Überlebenschancen. Der Tourismus ist zwar ein sehr empfindliches Geschöpf und schon manche Gemeinde hat sich für wenig durchdachte Projekte total verschuldet und das gesetzte Ziel verfehlt. In Otos setzte man auf den sanften Tourismus, auf Leute, die das Besondere suchen und nicht den großen Lärm, das große Dauerspektakel.
Warum nicht mit Sonnenuhren so ein Clientel anlocken, dachte sich Joan Olivares. Es gab schon Sonnenuhren am Ort. Doch nun wurde mit Bedacht und kluger Unterstützung durch die lokalen Politiker aber auch mit Hilfe Europäischer Zuschüsse ein Projekt gestartet, bei dem namhafte Künstler mit guten Gnomonisten zusammenarbeiten wollten. Das muß nicht immer gut gehen, weil die Künstler mitunter auch zu spinnerte Ideen haben, die dann aus dem Ruder laufen und auch vom besten Gnomonisten nicht mehr abgebremst werden können.
Was war hier das Entscheidende? Man hat nicht auf Größe gesetzt, wie sonst allenthalben, nicht aufs spektakulär Gewaltige, sondern aufs spektakulär GUTE! Das ist es, das hat Bestand! Weil mir das so sehr am Herzen liegt, möchte ich hier gern auf meinen letzten Artikel verweisen, den ich im DGC-Mitteilungen-Magazin Nr. 111 vom Herbst 2007, mit dem Titel "Über ganz große und eine ganz kleine" veröffentlicht habe, der hier durch Anklicken aufgerufen werden kann. http://www.ta-dip.de/fileadmin/user_upload/bilder/3735fdf34abe3bb8fd043dd0b786d9a3_Nr_111_ganz_grosse.pdf
Daß es natürlich nicht reicht, eine größere Zahl von sehr guten Sonnenuhren im Ort zu verteilen, Hinweistafeln aufzustellen, war auch klar! Joan Olivares, von Hause aus Mathematiker, investierte zusammen mit seiner Frau in ein wirklich einzigartig schönes Hotel mit Restaurant, das "Ca les Senyoretes". Schauen Sie sich die Bilder der Internetpräsenz an und belassen Sie es aber nicht beim Schauen, sondern buchen Sie auch das Hotel für Ihren nächsten Urlaub in Spanien! Auf nach Otos!

UN NOU RELLOTGE A OTOS
El 1611, dos anys després de l’expulsió dels moriscos, en Francesc Milà d’Aragó, baró d’Otos, signava la carta pobla amb les condicions del repoblament de la baronia. Amb ell signaven el document trenta hòmens que amb les seues famílies havien d’ocupar les cases i terres deixades pels seus desventurats predecessors. En aquest quart centenari, el poble d’Otos ret homenatge a aquells repobladors amb la instal•lació d’una escultura commemorativa creada per l’artista otosí Tino Pla. L’escultura representa les siluetes de tres xiprers. Amb això, l’artista vol simbolitzar, seguint un antic costum mediterrani, l’hospitalitat amb què el poble d’Otos rep tots els visitants.
Tino em va proposar de convertir l’escultura en un rellotge de sol. Aquest tipus de reptes són els que més m’agraden. Trobar la manera com les ombres d’una obra preconcebuda sense intencionalitat gnomònica es pot convertir en un rellotge. Vull dir convertir-la en un rellotge: no pas incorporar-hi un rellotge postís, sinó fer que ella mateixa siga el rellotge. I més encara, suggerir a l’observador, si és possible, que l’artista ha supeditat la seua obra a les exigències gnomòniques, quan la realitat és justament la contrària. Això a vegades s’aconsegueix i d’altres no gaire. En aquest cas, puc dir que n’he quedat content.
Encara falta acabar uns detalls, però el resultat el podeu veure quasi complet en les fotos adjuntes. Quant a la qüestió tècnica, té la seua cosa...

In 1611, two years after the expulsion of the Moors in Milan Francisco Aragon, Baron d'Otos, signed the charter with the conditions of resettlement of the barony. With him thirty men signed the document with their families had occupied the houses and land left by his hapless predecessors. On this fourth anniversary, the village of Otos pays tribute to those settlers with the installation of a memorial sculpture created by artist Tino Pla of Otos. The sculpture represents the three silhouettes of cypresses. It is a stone clock than 50 cm. in diameter. The sundial marks the solstices and equinoxes, is painted with red, yellow and purple, indicating the date of April 14 in commemoration of the 2nd Spanish Republic.

El Benicadell (Bromera), escrit per a la campanya “Llegir en valencià”. I, alhora, guanya un tarannà històric i d’identitat nacional davant el rellotge dedicat a Joan Baptista Basset, que projecta l’ombra per assenyalar cada 25 d’abril. Si com va escriure el poeta Josep Piera, “la poesia són veus convertides en sons que diuen d’on venim, on anem i qui som”, aquest rellotge de sol és una veu de la consciència convertida en temps que ens recorda la nostra identitat.

Just the other day I wanted to talk about the new sculpture of Joan Olivares, but I was mentally tired to write in English. So, with the help of Carles I will try now to tell you its meaning.
It is a sculpture honoring Raimon, a Valencian singer, musician and poet, famous and beloved in all the Catalan Countries, writer of wonderful songs, especially he has made the music of poems by Catalan and Valencian poets of all time.
Joan Olivares and Rafael Amorós, have presented their latest work in Xativa, near the " carrer Blanc" (White street) where Raimon was born.
It is a sculpture consisting of a cylindrical column of three meters height and 70 cm diameter. At the top is cut obliquely by a plane inclined 39 degrees (latitude Xativa) facing south. Around the column there is a rolled stainless steel drilled tape with two verses of the Espriu poem "I looked at this land," music by Raimon. At the top of the column a metallic tape is placed equatorially, forming a right angle with the inclined plane of the column.
Verses "I looked at this land," can be read on the bottom of the column, which was built with land provided by associations and institutions of all Catalan-speaking areas. So, we are really looking at the land of both, Espriu and Raimon.
At the foot of the sculpture is the legend:
"To honor the favourite son of Xativa, Raimon Pelegero, high school students have chosen among their songs, these verses of the poet Salvador Espriu. Rafael Amorós and Joan Olivares have modeled space and time. To construct the column, they have used different lands coming from councils and organizations of all territories (Països Catalans) that share the language which Raimon ennobles with his singing."
The chorus of the song ("I looked at this land") is visible all the time as it is drilled twice in the rolled stainless steel around the central column.
The first and the second verses of the poem are drilled in the upper tape.
The first verse of the Espriu poem refers to sunrise, and it is visible from mid-morning (approximately 9 solar time: 11 DST) when the sunlight project the first four verses (drilled in the upper right side of the tape) on the inclined face of the top of the column and during a moment the first verse of the poem may be read completely. Then the words slide continuously on the upper face until they disappear by the right side, while the first four verses of the second verse (which refers to the sunset) appear on the left. In mid-afternoon (about 15: solar time: 17 DST) the four lines of the morning verse are completely gone and the four lines of the afternoon verse occupy the inclined face of the top of de column. They can be read for a while, while sliding to the right until they finally disappear when the sun is behind the horizon.
